    THANKSGIVING

We had the joy of having Papa and Nana Robinson visit us for Thanksgiving this year. It was an incredible week, full of memories. First, let me say Madi has renamed Grampa to Papa. It was really cute. All week, "where is Papa?" He was also the first person she ran to in the airport. We had a great week. From family coming from Central Oregon and Idaho for a mini-family reunion, to a trip to the NEwport Aquarium, to a visit to The Grotto's Festival of Lights and a great Thanksgiving meal, we had a great time! Papa and Nana were great with the girls. They played and ran around the entire time they were here. They even watched the girls overnight for us one night so Josh and I could have a date night. That night was a little long for them, but they all survived and we were incredible grateful for a night off. Saturday Madi and I took Papa and Nana to the airport and the whole way home, "where's papa and nana?" It was so cute listening to her talk and play with them. It makes us definitely miss being close to family. We love you guys. Can't wait to see you again.

Josh, Madi, nattie bug and I all slept in the girls room. The girls did great with being in the same room. We were hopeful in keeping it that way after the g-parents left. It didn't work out so well, but oh well. So, Nattie Bug is back in our room, but as a result slept through the night and so did Madi...in their own beds. :)

Madi's ear infection seems better, but we go back next Monday I believe for a follow up. Her temper tantrums are becoming more frequent which is annoying, but normal. She has started singing now, which is very cute.

Natalie is getting better and better with reaching and grabbing for things. She enoys tummy time more now and isn't really trying to roll over, but we're practicing. THe rice cereal didn't really settle all that well with her yet, so we're taking a week off and maybe will try again next week.

I've got some more photos to load of The Grotto's Festival of Lights, the Downtown Gresham Christmas Tree lighting and us cutting down our Christmas tree. I will try to load those later today.

In 6 weeks we have been to the doctor 4 times! Twice b/c Madi's ear infections. First of all, let me say how excited i am that my mom and Clarence are here in town. We are enjoying our time with them and were able to have a mini-family reunion with some other family yesterday. It was a lot of fun. What wasn't so fun was Madi's awful mood and 3 hour screaming fit last night saying it hurt, it hurt. Instantaly we knew another ear infection. none of us (except Natalie) got sleep last night. Josh, Madi,Nattie and I were all in one room. Madi screamed literally for 3 hours and not once did Natalie wake up! CRAZY! Anyway. I finally was able to get Madi to settle down and she and I slept on the couch. For the first 3 hours she didn't want anyone but Daddy. WE took her to the dr's this morning and she has a severe ear infection in both ears (3rd one in 2 months). They put her on an even stronger medicine and we have to go back in 2 weeks for a follow up. I pray she gets better. It's so hard to see her in that much pain. The dr. compared it to a severe migraine for adults...and I'm sure the uncontrollable screaming doesn't help any. We are on the verge of having to have tubes put in her ears, but not yet. She's done well today. Had a temperature off and on. We'll pray for a better night tonight for all of us. We're going to the NEwport Aquarium tomorrow.

Aunt Jean:  oh my goodness...i am so sorry about your night last night. i know that must have been such an awful feeling (for all parties involved). hopefully the meds will work soon and she won't need tubes put in. but i guess whatever makes it better!! we love you and are so glad that you have some more help this week with family in town. love you!!

NATTIE BUG'S 4 MONTH CHECK UP

So Natalie had her 4 month check up today and is doing perfect! She weighed a whopping 15lbs. 15 oz. (83%) (big like her sister...but not as big) and is 24 3/4 inches tall (57%). Everything about her looked good according to Dr. Willey. She was so happy the whole time too. She didn't even cry during the first shot, but screamed for the 2nd. What was so great about the shots is that she was due for four, but they've started this new thing where they can combine 3 into 1! That was awesome! She also received an oral rotovirus vaccine. She liked that. Yummy.

Dr. W said we can slowly start her on the rice cereal since she's having BM issues with the AR formula (isn't that lovely to talk about). :) She said I could mix a little prune juice in the cereal though. So, i think we'll start that within the next week and hopefully that will get her back sleeping through the night.

We go back at 6 months and then, the dr. will access her AR situation to determine if the Axid med is still necessary. She said most babies outgrow AR by 1 year. We're hoping. :) That stuff is expensive, but completely worth it.

    DEVELOPMENTAL
Natalie has obviously gotten so big. She's changed so much, too. She's happy all the time except when she finishes her bottle. She loves to smile, coo, say "ah ga" and giggle. She doesn't enjoy tummy time too much, but we still practice almost every day. She LOVES watching her big sister play and will sit in her high chair and watch her for a good while. She loves her bouncer, too and tries so hard to reach the toys. She's grabbing everything now and putting it in her mouth. She loves sucking on her hands and sticking out her little tongue to the left of her mouth. (So funny.) She can stand up supported for a little while and thinks it's funny when she falls. She still loves her bathtime and her routine. She's still very sensitive and doesn't like surprises. :) All in all, she's great!

We tried putting her in Madi's room one night to sleep. She did great with Madi banging around. Madi didn't do so great when Nat woke up for her 4am bottle. We decided we'd hold off a little longer. Although we'll all 4 be sleeping in Madi's room this week while Grampa & Nana Robinson are in town. They come TODAY! YAY!

Madi is a typical 2 year old. We've almost solved the sleeping issue. Josh does have to sit with her in bed till she falls asleep now, which doesn't take too long and we put the child gate up in her door and set a palate down in front of it b/c she usually gets up in the middle of the night and sleeps there until morning. She hasn't woken up in the middle of the night in about 4 days which has been nice and hasn't been bothered by Natalie's crying in the middle of the night. She is a lot more emotional and clingy lately and doesn't like to be bored. :) Who does? LOL. She's been able to spend some time at our friend Katherine's house a little during the days and has enjoyed that a lot!

Well, I guess that's all for now. I'll update again after the g-parents leave.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Madi had her 2 yr. check up today at the doctor and did FANTASTIC. She weighs 30lbs and is 34 inches tall. (Around 75% for both.) Poor thing naturally has a big head like her mommy and daddy so that was in the 90%, but no concern. LOL. They had me fill out a developmental questionnaire to see how well she was doing there. She scored above-average, which was encouraging. The only two things I had answer No to was that she doesn't use her own name or me or I yet AND that she doesn't say things like "mommy juice" yet. The doctor wasn't concerned and was very impressed with how active Madi is, how good of an eater she is and with the vocabulary that she does have.

She only got a flu shot today and did great! Didn't even shed a tear. :) She was over it when she saw her Tweety Bird band aid.

Doctor Willey said we don't have to come back for a check-up until she's 3!! YAY! Great job Madi!

Well, Madi turned 2 years old today! We are so thankful God has blessed our lives with her. She brings to much character, joy and laughter into our lives. She has grown up so much! She has a pretty extensive vocabulary (even though everythings not clear), loves to jump around and off everything, LOVES to run, kick the ball, throw the ball, color, play memory (sort of), play hide-n-seek, put together puzzles and build blocks. Her imagination is starting to develop now too. She always carries so sort of stuffed animal or doll with her, which she insists on including in every activity (eating, praying, coloring, chasing, etc.).

We didn't have a party for her bday, but are planning on going to the Children's Museum tomorrow. Tonight we took her to Cold Stone Creamery for some ice cream. We've been trying to talk to her about when she was born and trying to get her to tell us how old she is. She's not too interested in listening to us though. It's pretty amazing how well a 2 year old can ignore you. :)

Anyway. We're so thankful for Madi,...our precious 2 year old. Looking forward to the many years to come.

Johnnie:  I liked B comment. It's amazing what memories our grand children will resurrect. Did your Horse recover B?
b:  At least you can see her playmate. I had an imaginary playmate--a horse. He went everywhere with us. Once my dad sat on him at the table. I cried and cried.

    SLEEPING UPS AND DOWNS

My status on Facebook tonight was "I can't remember the last time Josh and I were able to spend two hours alone together before bed without having to deal with scremaing children."

Seriously, just when things were starting to look good with Natalie things got bad with Madison and now it's like they've teamed up against us. This is how the past few nights have gone.

First, let me preface this by saying we had to lock up Madi's toys at night b/c she would play for about an hour before going to bed, which would result in bad moods the next day.

Despite a couple of late nights in a week, our routine is fairly simple and straightforward. We go to gym at 6:15, are back at home by 7:45, bathe the girls and put them both to bed by 8:30. Natalie consistently slept through the night 5 nights last week, but hasn't as of this week. No big deal...it's getting them to bed is the problem. Madi throws some of the largest temper tantrums ever now when going to bed. Jumping up and down, kicking, screaming as loud as possible and constantly getting up out of bed standing at her door. It's progressively gotten worse every night. As I speak, Josh is having to hold Madi with all her 12 stuffed animals until she falls asleep. RIDICULOUS! She’s 2 and has NEVER had problems going to bed.

Just around the corner is Natalie who won’t keep the pacifier in her mouth for the life of her and keeps hitting herself in the face with her hands. This usually requires one of holding down her hands (because she won’t keep them in the blanket) and her paci in her mouth. This is something I was always against because I wanted her to learn to self-sooth, but when it’s 10pm and she’s in our room crying, I would like to go to bed myself so will do anything to get her to go to sleep. So, now we don’t have to just deal with one, we’re being forced to deal with both, which has completely almost entirely cut out our time together in the evenings.

I’m over it! We’re going to have to instill the self-soothing no matter what. Let’s see if I have the will power to do it.

I do have some positive news about the girls that I will have to share tomorrow. I think they’ve finally gone to sleep and it’s nearly 11. Only 7 hours of sleep before we have to start it all over again.

Thanks for listening to me vent. :)

    Comments:
Aunt Jean:  Remind me of this when I start talking about having another baby. ;-) LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!! Wish we could be there to help more. Look out February, here we come!!
Marie:  Bless your hearts! I know this is all so frustrating. Although I haven't experienced all of that myself just yet, I have to agree with your Mom that it's a phase that WILL pass--it's just disheartening when you're going through it. Now, you can remind me of this when I'm writing about Aidan refusing to go to sleep. I envision problems with him b/c he already has a stubborn little personality and a temper :-) Maybe he and Madi would make a good pair!
MOM:  Sorry! I do remember those days. Good luck, these days will pass and some day when you have grand kids you'll think back on your days and say, Oh I'm glad it's them and not me. But I wish I could give you guys a break. I do love you guys. Love MOM

    SLEEP

This week has been tiresome, but rewarding as well. Sunday night Madi kept us up till 3 am screaming and saying "It hurt," but couldn't tell us where. She finally settled down and got some sleep. I called in to work saying I wouldn't be in till 10 so I could get some sleep. After logging into work Madison got sick and threw up all over the kitchen. She also started to get a low-grade fever. So we gave her Tylenol and let her rest. I took the rest of the day off to sanatize the house and help keep the girls separated just in case it was contagious.

Monday night Madi apparenlty kept Josh up till 1am. I never heard her. The next thing I remember is looking at my clock when Natalie woke up at 5:45!!!! She SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! Her last bottle was at 7:20 and she finally fell asleep around 9:30! So GREAT JOB NATTIE BUG!

Tuesday Madison threw up again and still had a fever and was tugging at her ears so I scheduled a dr's appt. She does have an ear infection again so they put her on an even stronger antibiotic than before.

Tuesday night, Madi didn't fall asleep till 10 b/c she had taken a 3 1/2 hour nap that afternoon, but she didn't wake up at all last night. Natalie didn't sleep through the night again, but that's ok. We're working on it. :)

Today, Madi is much better, but is just being BAD! She's finally down for a nap and Natalie is soon to follow.

So, we're still a little tired, but we're getting more sleep than ever now.

    Comments:
LeighAnne:  I hope madi gets better and with her fevers too, i hope to see you all soon!
Marie:  Wow--never a dull moment, huh?? Glad to hear things are looking up and ya'll can get some much-needed rest! Love you :-)
